The value of a selection…

by Las Vegas Legend, James Jones on September 17, 2012

Hey James Jones here…

Listen, before I get to who I like in tonight’s NFL Monday Night Football I want to talk to you about something…  After talking with a few of my clients today I feel the need to address a BIG mistake I see bettors make.  After being in the business for so many years I’ve heard and seen it all (or at least it seems that way).

The biggest mistake I see bettors make is treating each game the same.  This is the biggest mistake you can make!  It’s a fact that not all matchup are equal, meaning, some selections offer more value than others…

Let me briefly explain, I’ll use this weekend for an example…

Saturday Premium Picks:

1 UNIT: Northern Illinois -3

The Huskies are one of the solid MAC programs year end and year out. They are always well coached and bring a solid offense capable of scoring in the air and on the ground. While ARMY is a sentimental favorite they will have their hands full when the Huskies come into
their house!

Last year Northern Illinois dominated Army, and they led 49-6 in the fourth quarter. Northern Illinois is loaded on defense with six of their front seven back. It’s going to be a long day for Army on Saturday. TAKE THE HUSKIES AND LAY THE THREE POINTS

2 UNIT: Auburn -15

The season’s early and Auburn already has two losses. A once dominant force in the SEC has struggled in recent weeks. I believe Auburn’s in a must win situation to salvage their season.

On the flip side, LA-Monroe is coming off a monumental upset of Arkansas. They are riding high and looking to upset their second SEC power is as many weeks. Unfortunately, LA-Monroe is stepping into a situation Auburn is in a must win situation.

My sources tell me Auburn is not taking this game lightly. Look for Auburn to make a statement!  TAKE AUBURN AND LAY THE POINTS!

2 UNIT: North Carolina +3

I really like this North Carolina team despite their upset loss on the road at Wake Forest last week. In a classic look ahead game with Louisville, the Heels were flat and frankly uninspired in their loss.

We will get a completely different team Saturday. North Carolina is talented, and I am very high on their head coach Larry Fedora. Louisville is also a little over bought on the books. They are 2-0 but have only beaten lowly Kentucky and Missouri State.

I believe North Carolina is the better team, they’re 4-0 in in the four non-conference road games, TAKE NORTH CAROLINA AND THE POINTS!
3 UNIT: Florida +3

The game of day tomorrow in college football will be the sight of ESPN’s College Game day. After taking a bashing in the media for two years and the seat scorching hot for Derek Dooley, everyone is now in love with the Tennessee Volunteers. I do not understand this mindset by the public since the Vols beat only a mediocre at best NC State team.

I was really impressed with Florida’s come from behind win at Texas A&M last Saturday.  College Station was electric and Jeff Driskel showed plenty of guts by playing within himself and leading Florida back. He grew up a ton Saturday and this will give him confidence heading to Knoxville Saturday night.

Look for Florida to take advantage of an overhyped and overbought Tennessee squad. The Gators will win this game outright. TAKE THE POINTS AND THE GATORS!

RESULT  1 W – 3L  (-2.5 units)

Sunday Premium Picks:

3 Unit: Indianapolis Colts +3

Today the Indianapolis Colts open up their home opener against the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are coming off of an overtime victory against a struggling Jacksonville Jaguars team. While the Colts are coming off a loss against the Bears in Chicago.
While Chicago’s defense made it difficult for Luck to perform he passed for 309 yards and 1 TD. Luck’s number aren’t there yet but I agree with “7” on this… The Indianapolis fans are the x-factor here and emotions are high and the pressure is on Luck to perform at home. Take the Colts with the points +3

3 Unit: Pittsburgh Steelers -5

The Steelers are starting their home opener against Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets. While the Jets are coming off a blow out win against the Buffalo Bills… Today the Sanchez/Tebow combo face a hungry Steelers defense.
Fact is, the Steelers are 9-0 in their last nine home openers and 5-0 under Big Ben. The Steelers faced a stellar defense in the Denver and an offense led by a future hall of fame QB. We believe the loss of Darrelle Revis this week and a strong Steelers O-Line will be the X-Factor for Big Ben and the Steelers. Lay the points and take the Pittsburgh Steelers -5

RESULT:  2 W – 0L (+6 units)

Factoring in the juice my clients added 3.5 Units to their bankroll after we lost more games than we won.  It’s mainly due to how “7” and I measure our premium picks in units, not all games are valued equal.  There’s many factors that go into our gaging a selection but some selections have more value than others depending on injuries, coaching, pressure and many other factors.

Now onto my thoughts on MNF…

In this highly anticipated Monday night matchup with the Falcons hosting the Broncos in Atlanta.  I believe there’s just too much hype around Peyton Manning, I think he’s the best QB to play the game but people soon forget he took an entire season off.  I believe the Atlanta Falcons are just too talented on both sides of the ball.  Look for it to be a shoot out but look for Atlanta to come out on top!

Lay the three points and take the Falcons-3.
Stay sharp and good luck,

James Jones
