It has been a long time since I was impressed with a player as I was with watching Dirk Nowtizki against Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
Dirk scored 48 points and was 12-25 from the field. He made shots from everywhere three pointers with men in his face and baseline slams. Nowtizki may as pure of a shooter as anyone in the NBA and keep in mind the guy is 7 ft. tall. That’s unheard of from a guy of the size. Oh yeah, and he also set a NBA record by going 24-24 from the foul line in the Mavericks 121-112 win over the Thunder.
I will not go into the Dirk is better than Larry Bird nonsense that we have seen since last night’s game, but cannot deny that Dirk’s game is so similar to Bird. I would have loved to have seen Dirk on those Celtics teams of the 80s.
